The Hunger Games book review

The Hunger Games is an action fiction novel, based on an account of a 16 year old girl called Katniss Everdeen. Everdeen lives in a post-apocalyptic nation which was once North America. The Hunger Games are a televised annual event where 12 boys and 12 girls from each district of Capitol, an advanced metropolis. The Hunger Games are where one boy and one girl age 12-18 from each of the 12 districts are randomly selected through a lottery competition. In the competition the children are forced to fight until death and there is one rule kill or be-killed.  Katniss becomes at risk from the political leadership for her outspoken views on the hunger games. Katniss’ sister was nominated to enter the competition but Katniss steps forward to take her sister’s place in the games.

The book is for action fiction fans, which I was not but it was well written with a great plot and exciting action.  If you like videogames, this is the book for you, the blood and violence made it a horrifying book.  The Author writes in present day not past tense which gives it the feel as if you were there at the time. The book also looks at the poverty and starvation of many and looks how the main characters Teen survival under war like depression. These characters from the districts are in situation like a big brother TV program battling to win.  Katniss is predicted as heroine and tells her views of the situation.
